Claudia Doring Baez was born in Mexico City, Mexico. Lives and works in New York City, USA.

If photography for Pousette-Dart was “a vehicle for palpably refashioning the visual matter of the world,”painting for Doring Baez refashions photographic matter through a brave and spiritual investigation of light, color and form. Pousette Dart’s layered superimposed shapes create a complex self-portrait that Doring’s painting transforms with humor, bringing this image from the past back and giving it new life. The overexposed face of a female study, evoked now by Doring in thick oils, puts the study in conversation with Edvard Munch’s “Love and Angst” depicting the female form appearing and disappearing. Pousette Dart’s nature studies give Doring Baez a way of coming close to nature in a yet more meaningful way: framed through his lens, the dramatically exposed flowers become subjects infused with life and dramatic intensity, prominent players on an ever-shifting stage.
